Planning a destination wedding in Roorkee or Haridwar

A destination wedding is really a logistics problem wearing formal clothes. The ceremony takes a few hours; moving, housing and feeding everyone takes days.

Why families choose this region

Roorkee sits on the Delhi–Dehradun corridor, roughly 180 km from Delhi, around 35 km from Haridwar and about 70 km from Dehradun. The nearest airport is Jolly Grant at Dehradun, roughly 90 km away, and Roorkee is on the main railway line.

That combination — reachable by road from Delhi in an afternoon, close to Haridwar and Rishikesh for guests who want to visit — is the practical reason the area works for weddings drawing families from several cities.

Start with the guest travel picture

Before anything else, split the guest list by where people are coming from. It changes every other decision:

• Local guests need parking, not rooms
• Delhi and NCR guests will mostly drive, arriving the day of or the evening before
• Guests flying in need airport transfers from Dehradun and will usually stay two or three nights

Only the third group drives your accommodation requirement, and it is usually far smaller than the total list.

Rooms: how many you actually need

Count families, not people. A rough working method: take the number of outstation families, assume most need one room and larger families two, then add about 10 per cent for late additions. Book a block at the venue if rooms are available on site — guests staying where the function is held removes an entire layer of coordination.

Ask the venue how many rooms are held for a wedding booking, and whether check-in and check-out can flex around the functions rather than the hotel's standard times.

Think in days, not in one event

A destination wedding is usually three or four functions across two or three days — typically a mehendi or haldi, a sangeet, the wedding itself and often a reception. Plan the sequence against the venue's spaces:

• Which function needs the largest hall, and which can use a smaller space?
• Can two functions run on the same day without a rushed changeover?
• Where do guests go between functions — is there somewhere to sit?
• Who handles setup and clearing between events, and how long does it take?

Local logistics worth settling early

• Transport between hotel and venue, if they are not the same place
• Airport and station pickups — assign one person to own this
• A point of contact at the venue for the whole event, not a different person each day
• Sound cut-off times, which matter more when guests are staying on site
• Meals outside the functions — breakfast and late arrivals are routinely forgotten
